    Rodica Dimitriu has taught and published articles and books in the fields of translation studies, British literature, reader-response criticism, cultural studies and ELT. She coordinates the translation programmes – undergraduate and MA levels – at the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iaşi , Romania . She is a professor in the Department of English of this university, a member of the advisory board of several international journals for translation and interpreting studies, as well as a member of the European Society for Translation Studies (EST).

    This is the first translation into Romanian of one of Eugene A. Nida's celebrated books, Translating Meaning (1982), as well as of a more recent essay, Translation: Possible and Impossible (1996). Both writings synthesize the American scholar’s outlook on translation and highlight his complex methods of investigating an essentially interdisciplinary field. Nida’s approach marked a departure from the traditional translation discourse, and even from the more “scientific” contrastive approaches, in its shift of focus from the fundamental concept of faithfulness to the source, to that of acceptability by the readers in the target culture.

    Eugene A. Nida, one of the most outstanding figures in the field of Translation Studies, was a consultant for the American Bible Society and the United Bible Societies between 1943 and 1981, President of the Linguistic Society of America in 1968, and Translations Research Coordinator for the United Bible Societies between 1970 and 1980. His involvement with Bible translating brought him into contact with over 200 languages and cultures in Asia, Australia , Africa and the Americas . His books Toward a Science of Translating (1964) and The Theory and Practice of Translation (1969, co-authored with Charles Taber) won him a great reputation, being widely used in (Bible) translator training worldwide. Nida is the author and co-author of more than 40 books and 250 articles.

    Cătălina Iliescu-Gheorghiu is a graduate of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Bucharest, with a BA in Spanish and English (1989). She has lived in Alicante since 1990 being a senior lecturer at the University of Alicante after a PhD in Translation Studies (2002). Besides courses of Consecutive Interpreting between English, Spanish and Romanian she has taught courses of English and Romanian language, Errors in Translation and Research in Interpreting for various doctoral programmes. Cătălina Iliescu Gheorghiu is also an authorised translator and conference interpreter. She is the founder of “Wings” (2005), a cultural association that promotes cultural exchanges between Spain and Romania . Cătălina Iliescu is Director of the Cultural Centre of the University of Alicante - „Sede universitaria Ciudad de Alicante”.
